Affordable Learning OhioLINK

OhioLINK Affordable Learning & OER Initiatives

OhioLINK is currently working on affordable learning initiatives in three areas:

1. Awareness and Advocacy – Open Textbook Network workshops.

2. Discovery and Visibility – Affordable Learning Ohio website

3. Creation and Collaboration – OER Commons Microsite - OpenOhio

OhioLINK also issued an RFI (Request for Information) for published textbooks on the inclusive access model in November 2017 and is continuing to work on statewide efforts to drop prices for students on all textbooks.

Open Textbook Network Workshops

OhioLINK offered three Open Textbook Network workshops on November 6, 7, and 8 for interested librarians, faculty members, instructional designers, and administrators. We will be holding two more on March 15 and 16, 2018. Please check back here in January 2018 for more information.

These workshops are designed to be “train-the-trainer” workshops directed towards people who are interested in learning more about open resources and then promoting and sharing about open resources on your own campuses.

The OTN workshops are designed for:

  • Faculty members who are interested in adopting and promoting open resources in their own classes and helping other faculty members learn more about finding and adopting open resources.
  • Librarians who work with faculty and others to find open resources for their courses and who want to present workshops on campus about finding and adopting open resources.
  • Instructional designers who help design courses using open resources and who would like to share with other instructional designers and faculty about designing courses using open resources.
  • Administrators who would like to create programs focused on finding and adopting open resources to use in your own courses.
